Stereotype vs. True Self

Students have been discussing the issues they face when stereotyped. They feel judged, cornered, labeled, restricted. Students talked about sometimes finding stereotypes funny, sometimes feeling angry. They discussed when they themselves stereotype others. They talked about how often it depends on WHO is looking at them. Different people, from different places may stereotype them in different ways.

Isair: "When people from other neighborhoods hear I am from Little Village, they assume I am a gang banger and thug. When people in my own neighborhood see me, they assume I am a nerd. I am neither."

They brainstormed the kinds of stereotypes they have faced in their experiences and compared that to their concepts of the TRUE SELF, who they know they really are as a complex human being.

Here are their mind maps:

LTLYM- Make an inspirational banner Roberto Calderon

For the assignment, I chose to make an inspirational banner. The phrase that I chose was "Just keep it going" because sometimes people have too many problems and their easiest way to get out of them is by giving up. I want people to understand that a simple phrase can change the way somebody feels during that day. Also, phrases can motivate people to overcome obstacles. The materials I used were yarn, markers, crayons, and paper.
Shared the project on Snapchat

Po's mother, by Sierra Uvalle

For the LTLYM assignment, I chose to paint out a sad scene of a movie that made me cry. And the movie scene I chose was Po's mother from King fu panda 2. The materials I used were a pencil, paper, resources, and paint. I was expressing that even though your story didn't have a happy beginning, it's the rest of your story. Who you choose to be. Honestly when I was painting my drawing I couldn't stop thinking about the scene and how I'd go on YouTube to watch just THAT scene and I'd make myself cry haha. I'm much like Po because I had a rough childhood and as I grew I can overcame my unhappy beginning and chose to be happy through my life.

Love to love you more assignment

I drew a sad scene from The Pokemon Movie.
This scene relates to me because it shows a greving process when u lose someone very close to you.
